Your conversations. Your browser.

Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This extension helps you find your way through ChatGPT conversations. This policy explains what it accesses, why it needs that information, and where it stays.

1. Information the extension accesses

The extension operates only on chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com. It accesses the current conversation’s:

To include prompts that are not currently rendered on the page, it retrieves conversation history from the same ChatGPT website using your existing signed-in session. History responses may include assistant replies, attachment metadata, and other conversation content. Only user prompts, including attachment labels when needed, appear in the directory.

2. How information is used

This information is used to build the numbered table of contents, show full-text previews and original sent times, highlight your reading position, and navigate to selected prompts. Scroll activity also controls when the directory handle appears.

Authentication headers associated with the page’s conversation requests are used temporarily in memory only to retrieve the current conversation’s history from the same ChatGPT origin. They are not saved to persistent storage, logged, or sent to the developer or third parties.

3. Storage and retention

The extension keeps its prompt directory in browser-tab memory. It does not persist conversation content in local storage. Closing the tab ends this in-memory processing.

Only the draggable handle’s position is saved in the ChatGPT website’s local storage, under chatgpt-toc-handle-position-v1. This preference stays until that storage entry or the site’s local storage is cleared. Uninstalling the extension does not necessarily remove this site-storage entry.

4. Sharing and third-party services

The extension does not send conversation content or authentication information to the developer or any third-party service. It does not sell user data, include advertising or analytics, or track browsing on other websites.

History requests are sent to the ChatGPT origin you are already using. OpenAI’s handling of those requests and your ChatGPT data is covered by OpenAI’s Privacy Policy.

5. Your choices

You can stop the extension’s access by disabling or uninstalling it and refreshing or closing existing ChatGPT tabs. You can remove the saved handle position by deleting its local-storage entry or clearing the ChatGPT website’s local storage.

These actions do not delete conversations stored by ChatGPT. Manage those conversations through ChatGPT’s own controls.

6. This policy website

This page contains no analytics scripts, tracking pixels, forms, or embedded third-party assets. When hosted on GitHub Pages, GitHub handles website requests and may process technical information under the GitHub General Privacy Statement. Visiting this policy page does not give it access to your ChatGPT conversations.

7. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the extension’s functionality or data practices change. The revised policy will be published here with an updated date.
